AtomUploads (www.atomuploads.com) formerly AddictingClips, is a customer-driven video, audio and online gaming aggregation site owned Atom Entertainment, which is part of MTV Networks.
The team at Atom Entertainment and MTV saw the opportunity to create a user generated content (UGC) site late in 2005 as a means of getting the most out of the content on their current sites and expanding their content base by adding user created videos and Flash games. The company's business model also called for AddictingClips to be a pre-eminent location for video and gaming content from all over the Internet, not just their own sites.
In October of 2005 the company began conducting exhaustive research into existing UGC solutions, rating feature/functionality, cost, technology platform and white-label capability. After evaluating over 18 contenders, and ruling out the costly and specialized option of internal development, Atom awarded the contract to Reality Digital in December of 2005.
Development on the site began in mid-January 2006, and the UGC version of the site was launched to the public in March of 2006. Functionality includes the ability for registered users to upload video and Flash files from multiple devices and formats, view content, rate it, comment on it, view clips by “most discussed”, “most viewed”, “featured”, etc.
The site is rich in social networking functions such as user profiles, address book upload and (video) email functionality. AddictingClips aggregates content from the Addicting Games and Atom Films sites, as well as content from other user content sites such as YouTube, Guba and others.
In their first two months, AddictingClips was averaging 250,000 unique visitors per month. Today, there are an average of 500,000 unique visitors a day, who watch an average of 6 videos per visit. The company has current upload traffic of UGC that averages 900 files a month. The site is moderated by one full-time administrator working standard business hours. Visits per month have exceeded expectation, as has advertising revenue growth.
